The disposable camera for your phone

Roll is a camera app built around a simple question: what if taking photos felt special again? In a world where every picture is instantly available, endlessly editable, and immediately shared, Roll brings back some of the anticipation that made disposable cameras memorable.

Each roll is limited to 12 photos, encouraging users to be more intentional about what they capture. Instead of snapping dozens of nearly identical shots and choosing later, every photo feels a little more valuable because the number of opportunities is limited.

The most distinctive part of the experience comes after the photos are taken. Rather than revealing images immediately, Roll lets users choose a development period ranging from a few weeks to an entire year. During that time, the photos remain inaccessible, creating a delay between the moment of capture and the moment of rediscovery.

This design transforms photography from a tool for instant gratification into something closer to a time capsule. When the images finally become available, users get to revisit moments they may have partially forgotten, often experiencing them with fresh perspective and genuine surprise.

Beyond photography, Roll taps into a broader idea about digital wellbeing. Many modern apps are optimized for speed, engagement, and constant interaction. Roll intentionally moves in the opposite direction, slowing the experience down and making memories feel less disposable.

For people who miss the excitement of waiting for film to be developed, or simply want a more thoughtful relationship with photography, Roll offers a refreshing alternative to the instant-everything culture of modern smartphone cameras.
