A minimalist journal that slowly fades with time

Drift is a journaling app built around the idea that not every thought needs to be preserved forever in perfect detail. While most note-taking and journaling tools focus on archiving everything, Drift embraces impermanence, creating a quieter and more reflective relationship with personal memories.

The app intentionally limits what you can capture. Each entry consists of just a few elements: a short piece of text, a drawing, and a photo. There are no productivity metrics, engagement mechanics, AI assistants, streak counters, or social features competing for attention. The experience is designed to feel lightweight and intentional, encouraging users to record moments rather than manage a digital archive.

What makes Drift particularly distinctive is its fading system. Over time, journal entries gradually lose clarity. Text becomes softer, drawings dissolve, and photos slowly fade into the background. The memories never disappear completely, but they become less prominent, much like how memories naturally evolve in real life. If a particular entry matters, users can simply touch and hold to bring it back into focus.

The app also includes a shared space called Anchors, where anonymous prompts appear periodically and people respond without profiles, follower counts, or personal identities. Instead of building another social network, Anchors creates small moments of connection between strangers through reflection and writing.

Drift feels less like a productivity tool and more like a digital mindfulness practice. Its design encourages users to let go of the pressure to document everything, focusing instead on capturing meaningful moments and allowing them to settle naturally into the background over time. For people who find traditional journaling apps overwhelming or overly optimized, Drift offers a refreshingly different perspective on personal reflection.
